The Xolo

Rules & Boundaries

This is a breed that thrives on clear rules and boundaries. Too much freedom too early can lead to entitlement, pushy behaviour, and ongoing challenges, which is why Xolos are not generally recommended for novice dog owners.

Consistency from the beginning is essential; owners need to be firm with expectations and avoid letting standards slide. That early effort is well worth it, as your Xolo matures into a well-trained, well-adjusted adult who is a pleasure to live with and take out in public.

We are able to connect our puppy families with a trainer experienced with Xolos, available for in-person sessions or remote support by phone or online.

Xolos are also a sensitive breed; we believe they respond best to a balanced approach that is firm but fair and never passive.

They are intelligent and perceptive dogs and can be surprisingly adept at manipulating situations, sometimes convincing their humans that their feelings have been hurt.

This breed is not suited to heavy-handed training. While Xolos can tolerate appropriate physical guidance when used correctly, frequent force or emotionally driven corrections will quickly damage their trust. Xolos need an owner who is calm, emotionally balanced, and fair - when that trust is respected, they are deeply loyal and responsive companions.
